Independent Film Short Seeks NY/ North NJ based “Production Manager/Line Producer”
We a low budget film short and will combine the Production Manager/Line Producer position. We are currently in pre-production, attaching known talent and beginning to seek funding. We have a director and renown/experienced DP already attached. Can provide 1X, flat amount pocket money now for helping with budget scrubbing, and offer deferred payment upon obtaining funds. You will sign a letter of intent with us. Once funds secured, we are rocking! We need someone who loves making film, is as dedicated and as passionate as we are, and has tons of patience. Set in the sixties – a tumultuous time in the United States - this project will tell the story of a young male journalist, who has a crisis of consciousness when given his final assignment. Must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. Must be able to travel easily to NYC and/or Northern NJ area for meetings. Must have cell phone and Skype account for conference calls. Production Manager/Line Producer Job Description - Film Production Manager/Line Producer run productions on behalf of the Producer. They help to determine the most efficient and economic way to schedule shoots, negotiate business deals for crews, locations and technical equipment, and make day-to-day production decisions to ensure that productions proceed smoothly. Production Manager/Line Producers are dynamic and highly self-motivated individuals. They should be excellent communicators, prepared to work very long hours, and able to react calmly under intense pressure. Responsibilities Include In charge of the expenditure of the 'below-the-line' budget. Must help out in pre-production in order to scrub the budget, be involved in the following. Pre-Production: • Work closely with the Producer and Director/First Assistant Director to break down the script page by page, and to prepare a provisional schedule. • Consult with the various Heads of Department to estimate the materials needed, and to assist in the preparation of draft budgets. • ONCE FUNDS ARE SECURED, and the overall budget has been signed off, assist Producers in interviewing and selecting crews and suppliers to meet production requirements. • Help to negotiate rates of pay, and conditions of employment, ensuring compliance with regulations and codes of practice. • Negotiate, approve and arrange the rental and purchase of all production materials, equipment and supplies. • Production Manager/Line Producer oversee the search for locations, sign location releases, and liaise with local authorities and the Police regarding permits and other permissions. • May also negotiate contracts with casting agencies. Production: • Ensure that all bills are paid, that tasks are delegated properly, and that people work well together. • Setting up and implementing financial monitoring systems; controlling production expenditure. • Monitoring and controlling the progress of productions. • Overseeing production paperwork, such as releases, call sheets, and daily progress reports. • Liaising with the First Assistant Director on set, to ensure that the production schedule and departmental budgets are on target. • Sign and authorize all purchase orders (with oversight from Executive Producer). • Help the Production Accountant to prepare weekly cost reports. • Make changes to the schedule and to the budget as required, and ensure that these changes are brought to the attention of all relevant personnel. • Deal with any personnel problems or issues that may arise, and ensure that all Health and Safety regulations are adhered to. Post-Production: • ‘Wraps' the production, ensuring that all final invoices for services provided are received, checked and passed for payment, overseeing that locations are signed off in accordance with agreements. • Ensure that all rental agreements are terminated, and equipment returned on time. • Coordinate all post-production efforts such as editing. Skills This role is very business oriented, and requires a thorough knowledge of film production. Production Manager/Line Producer must be hard working, with superb planning, organizational and administrative skills. Will spend a great deal of time on the telephone, and must therefore have excellent communication and negotiation skills in order to win the confidence and respect of suppliers and production personnel. Production Manager/Line Producer must be familiar with budgeting and accounting programs, film scheduling and word processing software. Must need understand the creative and business challenges faced by the Producer, Director and Heads of Department, on each specific film production. Must have good contacts with local equipment suppliers (or know how to establish good contacts quickly), and know where to recruit reliable production personnel, from Location Managers and Art Directors, to Carpenters and Production Assistants. Production Manager/Line Producer needs to be familiar with Health & Safety legislation, and must know how to carry our risk assessments according to regulatory requirements. They must also be familiar with all insurance issues. Qualifications/Experience Production Manager/Line Producer s play a pivotal role on any film production. To qualify for this position, they must be experienced in the film industry and it is important that they know how to work on small independent projects and can “get blood from a stone”. A degree in Film or Media Studies is not essential, although a degree in some discipline is an advantage. Attendance on industry courses covering areas such as Health & Safety, Budgeting and Scheduling, IT, and First Aid, is advantageous. Prospective employers often stipulate that Production Manager/Line Producer should have a full clean driving license, cell phone with text messaging, Skype account, car or access to car, know how to travel NYC area via mass transit or highways and be willing to travel, once we are production.
